Creating a Common Language - Economy and the Environment
There is a language of business - externalities, real value, ROI, transparency - and the languae of non-profits - quality of life, bettermen and protection. Defining the Bottom Line is an initiative we launched in 2007 to create a common language that will enable the private sector, the givernment and the third sector to work together more productively towards the common goal of environmental protection.

Pushing Policy: Lobby and Government Relations
Thanks to the generous support of the Beracha Foundation, last year L&E launched an advocacy initiative which enables environmental organizations to develop key contacts in the Knesset, promote environmental legislation and oppose anti-environmental initiatives.

The Israeli invironmental movement's Green Globe Event, sponsored by the Green Environmental Fund, is a high-visibility annual function which recognizes the best and the worst of environmental practices.

The Green Economy Conference
The Green Economy Conference is a joint venture between Life & Environment and TheMarker economic daily newspaper that brings together experts from business and the environmental field to explore areas of cooperation.

Earth Hour
Initiated by Life and Environment, in cooperation with Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, Israel joined the Earth Hour global initiative first launched in 2007 in Australia. On March 27, 2008, at 8 pm, residents and businesses in Tel Aviv-Yafo switched their litghts off for one hour, as part of the world-wide awareness campaign addressing global warming, the climate crisis and the growing danger of greenhouse gas emmissions.

The Green Now! Campaign
The November 2008 Municipal Elections provided a unique opportunity for the environmental movement to leverage their united strength and achieve unprecedented results. Focused and driven, the entire environmental movement worked together in the Green Now! Campaign to achieve two main goals:
1. Advocating for a shift in local politics towards sustainable policies for sustainable cities, using the municipal elections as a catalyst and tool; 2. Significantly enlarging public support for a sustainability agenda and its support for, and involvement in, the environmental movement as the central advocate for such a vision. Read More...
Sustainable Development and Environmental Justice
Life and Environment leads two broad coaitions on issues of sustainable development and environmental justice. The aim of these coalitions is to produce a mutual agenda, exchange information and encourage decision-makers to adopt a pro-environmental stance.
The Environmental Justice Committee
The activity of the Environmental Justice Committee this year focused on integrating principles of environmental justice into government policies. This focus is the result of the committee's work process over the past four years and a product of mapping and identifying the issues associated with environmental justice in Israel.

The "Paths to Sustainability" Coalition for Climate Change
Launched in 2002, the "Paths to Sustainability" Coalition has been promoting sustainable development in Israel and monitoring government activity on the subject. In recent years, the Coalition focused its activities mostly on issues relating to climate change. The coalition, coordinated by L&E and sponsored by Hienrich Boell foundation, publishes reports on environmental issues, lobbies policy-makers and participates in national and international sustainability and climate forums.

Pro-Bono: The Ebert social Justice Fellows Program
Life and Environment is empowering civic organizations through counseling, advocacy and providing professional assistance. L&E creates strategic partnerships with professional associations whose members are willing to provide pro-bono services to these organizations.

Making Our Voice Heard: Organization Representation
Six years ago, L&E championed the Law of Representation, requirung participation of environmental organizations on all national planning and environmental committees. Consequently, approximately 50 representatives of environmental NGO's were appointed as members, or permanent acting members to more than twenty such committees throughout the nation.
